COVID-19 (Coronavirus): Our Response to the Local, State, and National Emergency

March 16, 2020

First and foremost, from all of us here at Pappalardo & Pappalardo, we want to wish you health and safety during this difficult time. Given the state of things, we are closely monitoring the situation with COVID-19, the novel strain of the coronavirus. Moreover, please check back to this blog post for updated information on our office’s hours and days of operation.

Our Office Is Currently Closed

Update: Effective Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 8 p.m., our offices will be closed in compliance with Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 202.6.

In the meantime, if you have a legal matter, please contact John at 917-940-5556 or Jill at 973-626-4088. You can also email us at info@pappalardolaw.com. Our attorneys will be working from home, visiting our offices only to retrieve files and to check or send correspondence via mail/fax.

Here at P&P, we strive for excellence and will continue to do so during this national emergency. We wish you all health and safety and will continue to serve your legal needs throughout this difficult time.

Because of our continuing ethical duties to our clients, we join the NYSACDL in asking Governor Cuomo to consider our work “essential.” See https://nysacdl.site-ym.com/news/495180/NYSACDL-Response-to-Governor-Cuomos-Executive-Order-202.6-Regarding-Providers-of-Essential-Services.htm (last accessed March 21, 2020). The COVID-19 pandemic does not relieve us of our responsibility to zealously advocate for our clients. While a number of functions can be performed from home, closing our offices does not best serve the constitutionally-protected needs of our clients.

If you want additional information about COVID-19, please visit the Center for Disease Control’s website.

Court Appearances

Regarding court appearances, we are closely monitoring the situation with courts. Information is being posted on the New York State Unified Court System’s website. As of today, March 16, 2020 at 5 p.m., it appears that many criminal cases will be administratively adjourned. This excludes arraignments and essential applications. We are reviewing each of our cases and advising our clients accordingly.
